There’s nothing quite like the feeling of

being name-checked in the lead story at Salon (okay, just page 4, and wow, thanks, Steve Almond) the night before you leave for a trip on which you’d resolutely decided not to bring your laptop for a change, effectively keeping you from following the various blogospheric reactions and responses and snickering and shitflicking that could ensue as a result of the article (though you don’t imagine any of it will be aimed at you (but if it was, though, you’d prefer to know (which just goes to show how much of a freak you are (which is pretty damn freaky)))). I mean it KILLS YOU to not bring the thing but you know it’s the right thing, philospophically and everything. So despite the temptation to keep logging on to see what everyone has to say about Almond’s article, my honest labor of self-reflection will not involve lugging my iBook and all its cords and attachments through airport security. Not this time, at least.

(But I can check my email, right? If there’s an internet cafe somewhere?)

Hope NJ is groovy.

I wish I could be in NJ right now. Not just so that I can go to one of your events (I just missed it when you where in L.A. damn it), but I'm from NJ and am working to move back.

Have fun and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll come back to southern california (anywhere from Santa Barbara down to San Diego). I know you know what constitutes So Cal. I'm just outlining a radius in which I think my car could make the drive.

Every time I've tried to find an internet cafe while out of town, it's ended in tears.

Either I can't find one, the one I find sucks or is full of teenagers, or I find one that's empty, open, and the DSL's out so you can't use the computers.

Maybe it's just me.

Funny, I just this morning looked at the pile of books next to my bed, culling the ones that won't get read anytime soon, and of course left your book in the to-read-again pile.

I must admit apprehension before I went to see you read - I loved Pound, but really, would the blog translate into book? When I did read INTNM, I was struck by how well you had taken your blog and made it a book. Or how your blog guest starred in your memior. Or something. Clearly, I'm no writer.

The article makes me wanna go read some Steve Almond, right away.

That was a fun read. Not as fun as your blog, but fun nonetheless.
